Introduction to the Deciduous Forest BiomeThe temperate Deciduous Forest Biome is located mostly in the northern hemisphere, concentrated in eastern North America, Eastern Asia, and Europe, which account for a majority of the biome's landmass . However, areas of South America and Australia are also classified as deciduous forests. As the name suggests, this biome is known for deciduous trees that shed their leaves in the fall season and then regrow them in the spring season. The biome experiences four distinct seasons: summer, winter, fall, and spring. The ecosystem of the deciduous forest biome is teeming with life, which is highly adjustable to the four seasons the biome experiences. During the colder seasons of fall and winter, most mammals will choose to hibernate, while birds migrate. The biome is home to many animals that are not found in any other of the biomes. These animals include but are not limited to, the American bald eagle, American black bear, mountain lion, and northern cardinal, among others. The deciduous forest biome is truly unique in with its diverse ecosystem and varying climate. (28)
